Tight Hips?? Try This

A great way to combat tightness and increase range of motion is to introduce a variety of novel movements into your routine, in positions that you might not otherwise find yourself in.

When I ask a client how their body is feeling at the beginning of a session, one of the most common responses is "tight hips."

It makes sense since many people are deskbound, seated at the computer for 8+ hours a day.

This bodyweight warmup is great for introducing some variety into your movement diet, and helps to unlock tight hips before more demanding movements like squats and deadlifts. It can be done with a barbell on a rack, as seen in the video, or with a bench or chair or TRX, also shown. I've had a lot of success in using it as a warmup with clients as it brings focus and attention to movement in an engaging way, in addition to the mobility gains it achieves.

You could also turn it into a fun partner drill by having one person hold a dowel (at a reasonable height, be nice to your training partner!) while the other steps over and under as well.

Try it out for yourself!
